Become a Foster
"Fostering isn't a lifetime commitment, it's a commitment to saving a life"
Approximately 2.7 million animals* - healthy, adoptable cats and dogs - are euthanized in shelters in the U.S. every year. That's about one animal every 11 seconds.
But you can help. By becoming a foster "parent", you not only help your foster animal prepare for life in a forever home, you also open a spot in the shelter so another animal can be rescued.
Some of the questions we get asked most ofen regarding fostering:
"Is it expensive to foster?"
- No, it's not. You provide a safe, loving home and food for our animals, and No Time to Spare provides everything else.
"What is required of me as a foster?"
- Fosters help with things like taking your foster animal to vet appointments (we will work with you and your schedule when making appointments), or basic training like house breaking, walking on a leash, and basic manners. We also ask that fosters bring their animal to at least one adoption event per month. We want your animal to get as much public exposure as possible so we can find them a forever home.
"Is it hard to let the animal go when it is time to send them to their new home?"
- It absolutely is. But it's also very rewarding. When you foster, you know that you personally saved that animal's life. Because you made room in your house and your life to foster this animal, you saved him or her from dying, alone and scared, in a kill shelter.
Not only that, but you know that you helped that animal become whole, healthy, and ready to live happily ever after in a forever home. Lisa, one of our board members, summed it up very well, "I take them into my home, knowing that they will leave me. But that's exactly why I foster them. There is nothing more rewarding than taking a broken animal, helping them to become the best they can be, then placing them in their forever homes".
If you have thought about fostering, if you are willing to open your home and your heart to make these homeless animals the best they can be, please fill out our foster application below. One of our board members will review it and get back to you. Thank you for helping us save lives!
